Incoming raw materials have to be classified before smelting. Automotive and Industrial batteries have to be drained of acid and broken up into lead-bearing, polypropylene and waste fractions. The acid has to be neutralized. A mixture of lead-bearing scrap and fluxes is reduced in rotary furnaces to produce lead bullion and slag. The lead bullion supplies the Refinery with recycled lead feedstock, and the slag is disposed to a class H:H Toxic tip site. The furnace exhaust gasses are filtered by Baghouses, with all flue dusts being returned for recycling. All water used on the site as well as storm water is collected and treated.
